Seafood Processing Licences and Certificates
Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries
Overview
Licences and/or certificates are required for all persons wishing to establish, operate or maintain primary and secondary fish processing plants in New Brunswick as well as for persons wishing to purchase fish at a wharf in the province.
Eligibility
All primary processing plants and secondary processing plants owners, and fish buyers.
Description
The Registrar of Seafood Processing issues the appropriate licences and certificates under the authority of the Seafood Processing Act.
All licences and certificates issued by the Registrar expire on the 31st of March following their issuance.
Except for fish buying licences, all licences and certificates issued by the Registrar shall specify the plant or facility location.
Also, a Class 3 Primary Processing Plant Licence shall specify any species permitted to be processed at the plant or facility.
An application for a new or an amended licence/certificate has to be filed through any of the departmental regional offices before being considered by the Registrar.
If dissatisfied with the decision of the Registrar, an applicant may appeal the decision to the Minister who will forward the request to the Licensing and Penalty Appeal Board who will hear the appeal and render a decision.
Persons eligible to apply for a licence and/or certificate under the Seafood Processing Act will also be required to obtain applicable licences, permits, certificates and authorizations from any and all other provincial and federal agencies and departments that regulate seafood processing activities in New Brunswick.
